Text Box: Extending our Witness . . .
Text Box: HelloFriends! What a curious reaction we have been witnessing to the production and release of Mel Gibson’s new movie The Passion of the Christ. The Hollywood crowd has resisted, derided and then attacked this movie mercilessly. We have been told it is anti-Semitic and hateful. We have been told it is violent and offensive… and this from the community that routinely mass produces violent and vulgar celluloid that most find disgusting and offensive. Suddenly Text Box: their sensitivities have been offended… or is it their atheism, agnosticism and anti-Christian bias that has been wounded? I have not yet seen this cinematic record of our Lord’s crucifixion, but I certainly shall. And I have to say, I am amused at Hollywood’s shock and outrage, their sudden affliction of conscience; you’d have thought that Mel Gibson had melted down the Golden Oscars to make a Golden Calf. Not having seen this film, I do not know how closely Text Box: and accurately it follows the scriptural account, but I am excited about the discussion and dialogue about our Lord's sacrifice this movie has provoked. It could open doors for witnessing to unbelievers about the incredible act of love committed by Jesus. As for anti-Semitism, I can’t fully comment since I have yet to see the flick, but I do not think we should resort to revisionist history in an attempt to be politically correct.
