Sing songs from your heart to Christ.  Sing praises over everything, any excuse for a song to God the Father in the name of our Master, Jesus Christ .  ~  Ephesians 5:19-20, Msg.

OUR PRINCIPLE TEXT (above) for this column is emphatic about our participating in worship to God with music. Note the points Paul makes:

1. “Sing songs.” This can be done by one or more in what we call “special music.” Or,

1. it can be a choir, or include the entire congregation. But we should sing songs.

2. “From your hearts.” It is of no value to simply make a joyful noise; it must be a matter of spirit and attitude.

3. “Sing praises over everything, any excuse for a song.” It seems Paul takes it beyond the parameters of the church service. This song in and from the heart should continue

3. in our everyday world.

4. “To God the Father in the name of our Master, Jesus Christ.” So we are  to be especially attuned to worshipping God .
