Sing songs from your heart to Christ. Sing praises over everything, any excuse for a song to God the Father in the name of our Master, Jesus Christ . ~ Ephesians 5:19-20, Msg. |
OUR PRINCIPLE TEXT (above) for this column is emphatic about our participating in worship to God with music. Note the points Paul makes: 1. “Sing songs.” This can be done by one or more in what we call “special music.” Or, |
1. it can be a choir, or include the entire congregation. But we should sing songs. 2. “From your hearts.” It is of no value to simply make a joyful noise; it must be a matter of spirit and attitude. |
3. “Sing praises over everything, any excuse for a song.” It seems Paul takes it beyond the parameters of the church service. This song in and from the heart should continue |
3. in our everyday world. 4. “To God the Father in the name of our Master, Jesus Christ.” So we are to be especially attuned to worshipping God . |
